John 4:35
Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.
Matthew 5:37
37 Then He *said to His disciples, “ The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Jesus says that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Are you a worker? If you are it is important to be sure you are preparing yourself for your work in the field. It would be senseless for a mechanic to try and fix a car without tools. Why would we go to work telling people the truth of the gospel without having the tools to do the job?
It is important to have the knowledge of the word and the promises of God hidden in your heart. This comes from the reading of the word of God. You need the sharpness of truth in your mind and the peace of Christ in your step; this is found in a Bible believing fellowship. As iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17) you need strong Christians in your life to come along side of you and give you affirmation of the truth and peace in your live. You also need an attentive ear to be attuned to the Holy Spirit to know where the harvest is.
It is important to remember that not all who work the Harvest bring people into the storehouse. There are those who hold the grains to gather and sort and move it. Jesus has a way of using parables and analogies that are living and breathing especially to the people he was speaking to. The harvest fields were living organic organisms of thought where there were reapers, binders, transporters and other harvest helpers. Each of these people was essential to the success of the harvest. If you are following Christ, be encouraged that you are part of this beautiful picture.
Bath yourself daily in the word of God, in the truths of his promises, in the freedom of his love, and in the grace and mercy of his blood. Be prepared for the part you play in the body of Christ and be cautious not to lead astray the ones who would potentially believe.
If you are ready to start the work that the gospel speaks of and are excited to share your story, then go to work with all you have. In learning about the truth of the word of God, relying on the Holy spirit to guide you, and leaning on the mercy of Christ you will soon be working effectively and efficiently and will become a great harvester by the grace of God.
