Devotion

Its easy to be “Christian like” on Sundays. You go to church and pray, you give your tithing, you sing and kind of listen to what the Pastor is talking about hoping that he is done so you have enough time to fight traffic home before the big game or race starts.  It doesn’t make you anything more than human to be distracted by what’s going on here on earth.

To walk the Christian life and do things the way God wants is not a 1 hour a week scheduled activity. Its everyday, its all day as much as you possibly can.  I’m sure most of you pray before eating at home. How often do you do it when you are out to dinner with your family. If you don’t, Why? Are you worried that people may look at you while your head is down giving God thanks for providing you and blessing you with the money to be able to go out and eat? Do you just forget?  Matthew 10:33 says “ if you deny me before man, I will deny you before my Father” Don’t be embarrassed, you may find you’re not the only one doing it. You may remind someone else to do the same thing.

2 Timothy 2:12 “if we endure, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us.” A relationship with God is one that will never end, it never fades on his side. Gods love is never-ending, his Grace is sufficient. God will always forgive no matter what you do, no matter what you say. The love of Our God is the greatest love we will ever know while on this earth.

The Grace Of God

I’m sure there have been times in your life when you had no clue how you were going to deal with what is going on in your life. Stress is a everyday part of HUMAN life. Work family bills your job, they all pile on top of one another till you just cant do it anymore. This weeks entry has a story that I have been waiting to share. For reasons you will understand the persons name has been changed. Weakness can come in many forms. Lucky for us God doesn’t care about our weakness.

Someone I know very well once made some bad choices and spent some time in jail for those choices. I will not say what he did but I will say it was not violent or drug related. Jack is what we will call him. Now Jack grew up in church and youth group. As an adult he grew apart from his faith and didn’t really think about God unless he was going thru some bad times. When Jack went to jail he was on a no bond hold, meaning he could not bond out and he was at the mercy of the court system. All together Jack spent about 6 months in jail. While he was there he remembered who he used to be and regained his relationship with God. In talking with him he told me a lot of stories that I will share from time to time but it is just to much for a blog post. A lot of people who go to jail seem to find God as soon as they get there. Jack already knew God, he knew where to find him and before he got in trouble had been working on getting closer to him. In reading books and his bible Jack came across 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV) But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” That stuck with him the entire time he was in there. When he thought he couldn’t take it any more he would think about that verse and a calming feeling would come over Jack. He day finally came that Jack went to court to be sentenced. He had no idea what was going to take place if he was going home to his family or going to have to stay in jail. While sitting in the holding cell nervous as he could be Jack prayed, he asked God to watch over him. He repeated that verse to him self for hours while he was waiting for his day of judgment.
What does this have to do with me you may ask. This verse proves that God is always on our side. Prayers are always answered just not the way you may have wanted them to be. Gods Grace is powerful, and constant. It is something that will never go away.
